This is a chemical reaction between calcium nitrate (Ca(NO3)2) and sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) to produce sodium nitrate (NaNO3), calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and carbon dioxide gas (CO2).
- Reaction conditions:
This reaction occurs under standard temperature and pressure conditions.
- Reaction Process:
- Calcium nitrate (a white solid) and sodium carbonate (a white solid) are mixed together.
- When these two substances are mixed together, they form a white mixture.
- When this mixture is heated, it decomposes into sodium nitrate (a white solid), calcium carbonate (a white solid), and carbon dioxide gas (a colorless gas).
- Phenomena occurred:
During the reaction process, there would be a smoke effect due to the escape of CO2 gas. Simultaneously, a white precipitate of calcium carbonate and a white solution layer of sodium nitrate are obtained.
