The chemical equation above illustrates the reaction process between iron(III) oxide (Cr2O3) and calcium (Ca) to form calcium chromite (CrCaO3). According to the equation, two moles of Cr2O3 react with three moles of Ca to produce four moles of CrCaO3.
- Reaction Conditions
This reaction usually occurs at high temperatures.
- Reaction Process
At sufficiently high temperatures, iron(III) oxide and calcium will react with each other. Calcium will take oxygen from Cr2O3 to form CrCaO3.
- Occurring Phenomena
During the reaction process, there may be a phenomenon of gas rising due to heating, as well as a change in the color of the reaction mixture. The formed calcium chromite usually has a black color.
