ZnCr2O7, also known as Zinc Dichromate, is a chemical substance with the chemical formula ZnCr2O7. It is a solid substance that is red or orange in color. It can be created through the reaction between Zinc Oxide (ZnO) and Dichromic Acid (H2Cr2O7). This produces ZnCr2O7 and water (H2O).

The molar mass of ZnCr2O7 is 291.18 g/mol. Its molecule consists of one atom of zinc (Zn), two atoms of chromium (Cr), and seven atoms of oxygen (O).

In ZnCr2O7, the Zn2+ ion and the Cr2O72- ion combine to form a molecule. The Cr2O72- ion, also known as the dichromate ion, is an octahedral ion with two chromium atoms and seven oxygen atoms.

ZnCr2O7 is a solid, odorless substance with a red or orange color. It is insoluble in water and has strong oxidizing properties.

Chemically, ZnCr2O7 is often used as an oxidizing agent in chemical reactions. It can react with metals such as iron, aluminum to produce corresponding oxides and releasing chromium oxide.

ZnCr2O7 can be synthesized through the reaction between ZnO and H2Cr2O7 at 180 – 200 degrees C with a pressure of 1 – 2 atm. In the lab, it can be synthesized by reacting ZnO and CrO3 in a strong acidic environment.
